Silver Lane Stables

Monday Morning Coffee had a lot of information about the “progress” happening in Estes Park, the advent of a new gas station and the loss of the Silver Lane Stables.
Silver Lane Stables Desk

Whiteside's Desk

Betty Whiteside and her Dad along with many wranglers over the years spent a lot of time sitting and working at this desk.  There were a lot of late nights doctering horses and early mornings saddeling up for the breakfast ride.

Dollars for Trails

Dollars for Trails

The Whiteside family was “Green” long before the rest of the world.  They knew that it took money to protect and maintain the trails that everyone enjoys using when the visit or live in Estes Park.  Lying in the rubble of the old office there is still the sign saying that they are donating 50 cents from every ride to trail maintenance.

Empty Saddle Racks at Silver Lane Stables

Empty Saddle Racks

The saddle racks are empty at the office of the Silver Lane Stables.  The building is being demolished as progress in Estes Park moves from horsepower to automotive power.  There seems to be more need for another gas station than a hack ride into the national forest.

Many a vacationer can remember taking a breakfast, dinner or just a ride at the Silver Lane Stables pretending for that brief amount of time to be one of the first to discover this beautiful place.  The solitude of riding a horse on a trail through the forest early in the morning, or as dusk is settling in the mountain valleys.

Have a great day –
